In this incredibly fragile book - pages tear as they are turned - Richard refuses help from Godfrey on a great front cover. This 'Hard times' novel first appeared in The Cotton Factory Times, published in Manchester and Ashton and 'a newspaper which deliberately sought a working-class readership' (see 'Eddie Cass, 'Factory fiction in the Cotton Factory Times' Manchester Region History Review, vol. VIII, 1994, page 33). Cass, in his article, pages 33-36, covers the publication history of Hard Times and its plot set against the background of living conditions in Ancoats at the time of cotton famine in the 1860s.… (plus d'informations)
