Based on a true story from 14th century Japan, this tale was recorded long ago and revived more recently. It is the tale of the youngest son of a Japanese farmer who was not strong enough to work his father's land and went to a nearby monastery to study for the priesthood. His penchant for drawing cats eventually saved the town from the demon that had plagued the people for many years. Great illustrations; an excellent story to share with middle schoolers.
