These are short anecdotes from a NYPD officer of his time on the force. A light but fun read about what its like to be a cop. I loved hearing about different neighborhoods of NY too.

He's not supposed to be a great writer. He's a cop. And everyone knows that cops have great stories. Osborne's collection of experiences as a cop make a great book, because the stories are engaging, dramatic, and funny all in one. Osborne's language may not be sophisticated, but it makes you feel like you're talking to a good buddy or a cool family member. Very enjoyable book.

I loved this book. He's not the world's best writer, but he's a great storyteller and I often felt as if I were in the precincts with him. As much as this was an ode to his 20 year career, it was one to an NYC long gone. Tompkins Square Riots, Fort Apache and prostitutes in Times Square. The most recent of his memories? 9/11.
I'd love to hear more of his stories.

Steve Osborne loved being a New York City cop and it shows in each "true tale." He chased, caught, and arrested many of the drug dealers/ and buyers, thieves, rapists, and killers using his training, wits, and common sense. As a rookie he made a few stupid mistakes but learned from them, matured, improved, and got promoted.

Osborne's instincts and heart kicked in when he had to deliver bad news. Even though he was pumped up when chasing criminals he exercised the patience and smarts required to keep his team safe and have a successful outcome.

I know that many New Yorkers including myself are grateful to Osborne and thousands of dedicated NYPD officers for reducing New York City's crime rates and making a huge difference.

The Job is an enjoyable, exciting and touching read.
