Madalyn Murray O'Hair (1919–1995)

The most hated woman in America speaks out on atheism and religious freedom. Excerpted from her radio show, O'Hair gives lessons in American history that hinge tightly on the actual writings of the founders, specifically Jefferson, Madison, and Paine. These are probably the best parts - where she reads directly from their works. The rhetorical skills of these men show through. As for O'Hair, her famous acerbic personality appears muted in this context; one would not necessarily know from reading these essays that she was, in fact, a very difficult woman who was really hard to get along with. Most of it appears more like a professional paper, and I can only imagine it did not make for exciting radio (though in the hands of a great orator, it might have).
