Here's a book about a topic that will surely start a conversation when it seems there is nothing else to discuss. Yashi Nozawa is the author of Fecal Transplant: Early History of FMT. Fecal Microbiota Transplant is what the FMT part of the title stands for. The book covers the procedure in which human excrement is mixed with warm liquid and given to a patient. Most commonly the recipient gets it in the form of an enema. It also has been known to be taken in pill form.

The author met a nurse named Betty who had heard about the ancient practice of fecal transplantation. about 60 years ago. Betty introduced the fecal transplant practice in the United States. A recipient was seriously ill and, according to this short book, was close to death. Bacteria known as clostridium difficile had overpopulated the colon. The introduction of fecal matter in enema form that came from another human being, namely Betty, cured the patient. He went home from the hospital within a few days.

This is a very short book of just 88 pages. It is officially listed as having 92, but it seems some blank pages at the end of the book had to be included to reach that number. It reads well early on, then seems to leave something to be desired in the writing as it nears the end. If you enjoy reading about things you unlikely have never heard about, you are going to love this book!
