The price tag will deter many people but this book deserves a very wide audience. It is an outstanding and groundbreaking study of the Nazi Party's efforts to stave off defeat in Germany's Eastern provinces, principally Silesia, East Prussia and Pomerania, in the autumn of 1944 and winter of 1945. The author has done a tremendous amount of research in a myriad of archives - there is so much here which has not appeared in the English language.

Perhaps the biggest surprise, however, is that for an academic book, this is extremely readable.

Here's hoping a paperback comes out to give the book the much broader readership it deserves.… (plus d'informations)
