This companion volume to an exhibition of Goya’s etchings is written and edited by the director of the Prado and published in various languages (this is the French edition). It includes a short introduction to the life of Goya and his graphic work, a chronology that also lists contemporary historic and artistic events to place his life into political context, an introduction to each of the four series and short comments to each image.
All images of the four sets are reproduced but not in their original size, mostly two to a page, which makes them rather small, my only misgiving, obviously a compromise to keep the price low. The design and execution makes it a beautiful book; I appreciate that the paper is a matt carton, more suitable to the reproduction of etchings than glossy paper.
