Palin visits various locations near the Pacific rim.

Dull. There's more focus on the film crew's massive pile of luggage than anything else.

Palin wanders around northern Africa.

Not as boring as Full Circle. It has some educational value, if not entertainment.

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of Michael Palin's travelogue series- these kicked off with "Around the World in Eighty Days," wherein Michael frantically hurries to complete Phileas Fogg's timed journey. The later series, including "Himalaya," lack the sense of urgency that the original carried, but benefit from clearer photography and a more balanced pace. Michael also developed his expertise in the art of travel narrative as he filmed subsequent journeys, and I think this steadily adds to the quality of his always enjoyable observations. But back to "Himalaya. "

This is my personal favorite of Michael's expeditions, primarily due to the magnificent scenery and the pacing of the trip, which feels just about right. Amongst other places, Michael travels through Pakistan, Bhutan, and India. As with his other journeys, the conversations with the persons whom he encounters (including the the Dalai Lama) are quite enjoyable with just a dash of humor thrown in. Michael is in top form here as a narrator, with a good balance of humor and serious commentary. For example, I enjoyed his wry yet frank description of the physiological toll that high-altitude climbing was exacting from him as he progressed.

Again, great show. I recently found out about Michael's retrospective "Around the World in 20 Years," which I absolutely have to see…
