Not a thrilling read. The authors' opinions on the world shine through strongly (they are disapproving of the education being delivered in 1983, for example), and there is a lot of detail about individual mayors and council members which could only have been of interest to those people. Overall, it concentrates a little two much on details, at the expense of a broader view of the city's twentieth century history. At least 25% of the photographs add nothing at all to the book.
