For anyone interested in football as it WAS, this is a fascinating glimpse back into football life in the early 1960s. This is a reproduction of newspaper columns Shankly wrote during the Summer of 1962 just after he'd got Liverpool FC promotion to the old 1st Division. He recounts his thoughts on taking the job at the end of 1959, the playing staff he inherited, the players he used, sold and bought and summaries of many matches from that time on, including lineups, scorers etc.

The fact that it's written when it was - before their 1960s league titles, their first FA Cup win in 1965 and then decline before rebuilding the team in the early 70s - gives it an extra magic. Shankly was hopeful of success in the future but obviously had no idea how successful his career would be, or indeed that he would stay at LFC as long as he did.… (plus d'informations)
