Dramatic account of a French cardiologist ending his long addiction to alcohol using the drug baclofen. A book of hope for many types of addictions.

About: Cardiologist Ameisen becomes a severe alcoholic, tries rehabs, etc. but nothing works. Finds a generic drug, baclofen, that when taken in high enough doses, eliminates his cravings and desire for alcohol. He publishes his self case study and since he is unable to get a full study funding or get much attention for the drug, he writes this book.

Pros: Interesting twist on your typical recovery memoir.

Cons: Due to the main focus on the drug, I found parts a bit too sciency. Although this book may achieve his goal of more drug trials, publishing a book for a mass audience about baclofen because he was unable to go through normal channels appears a bit suspect. Name drops a little bit with Bette Midler and Elie Wiesel.… (plus d'informations)
