John McCorkle

Despite being written many years after the war, I found his reminiscences truthful and not as biased as I expected. I read this doing research for a writing project and thought the book would be full of the "glory of the cause" and all the other phrases that were used to justify the horrid attrocities committed by Quantrill and his men. It did try to justify some of the actions taken but McCorkle also seemed uncertain and maybe a little remorseful. I found it to be a good read. It was written with the help of a ghost writer which might account for the how well it was written. I found McCorkle's grave after I finished the book.
