For being written quite awhile ago, on a specific subject, this book is really good! I found the author to be passionate about his subject - that young men shouldn't just go dashing off to war in order to become glamorous heros without knowing the realities of war and what they are really getting into. At the same time he is intensely patriotic and loyal to the U.S. He tells his son if the country was going to war to win back its freedom, he would march right alongside him. He doesn't, however, think it's right to fight just to gain more world power and prestige, or to fight other countries' battles for them. Although the book itself is dated (it was written for America's sons, not America's children, for example) the author's perspective on the war is timeless.… (plus d'informations)
