The purpose of this project was to improve musicianship skills in the beginning choir
classroom to aid in bridging the gap between choral and instrumental musicians. In
researching the difference in fundamental skills between the two, not much research
was found. Out of the many reasons for this gap, the author focused on beginning
instruction. 9 popular methods books were reviewed from cover to cover and several
trends were noted. A method book was created to introduce beginning choir students
to vocal pedagogy and standard music notation. As a result of the method book,
students will gain knowledge of the voice as an instrument and be able to read music
