This was one of the better professional books I've read about librarianship. The coauthors provide helpful guidelines for local history collection development, including a detailed policy template that I copied for future use, and there were helpful suggestions about programming and outreach as well. I so appreciated the wise and strongly worded advice about not allowing your local history collection become an accidental archive or museum collection.

The weakest chapter was that on web resources and digitization, which would have been significantly improved by input with UX and digitization professionals. There are so many local history websites out there that contain excellent information but aren't user friendly - and there's also the problems of sustainability, which are only touched on briefly here.… (plus d'informations)
