It was only 124 pages. I didn't like it from the beginning, and maybe it's because I had a negative reaction to the train scene in Germany. I have no qualms about most of the story. "Coverup" or not, I know most of it. I came from a military family. We know more than one thinks we do. Unfortunately, this is the very first thing - unedited, apparently - that I've read of Mandelbaum's. I might read the other one he wrote, but I'm just not sure. I don't particularly care for his style. He reminds me far too much of my blow-hard, banjo-playing, woman-demeaning Uncle Hap who married into the family and, unfortunately, stayed there.
