His main premise, that the decline in church attendance and involvement is due to the changes brought about by the Second Vatican Council, can only be partially correct. I believe that the causes are more subtle, and a reflection of changing society, higher levels of education for ordinary people, and the ability to move and travel. He addresses all of these, but doesn't give them enough weight.
Change in the Catholic Church cannot occur while the entrenched male, celibate hierarchy remains in power. That is clearer now, to lay Catholics, than it has ever been previously.
