Pertti Luntinen

This was the first archive-based investigation of Imperial Russia's mobilization -- and thus, war fighting potential vis-a-vis the central Powers -- on the eve of the great War. Luntinen drew heavily on the records of the French military attaches in St. Petersburg, housed at Chateau Vincennes near Paris, to piece together what Russia's most stalwart ally actually knew about the Russian Main Staff's plans, should war with Germany and Austria break out. Subsequent work on this question by W.C. Fuller and Bruce Menning (among others) has largely confirmed Luntinen's deduced conclusions about Main Staff war planning after 1894.… (plus d'informations)
