I enjoyed reading "Recruited" by Wesley Robert Lowe as a short, introductory novella to the Rayna Tan Series. In book one, this 96-page story takes Rayna, a Canadian Special Forces operator on a joint mission with an American Seal Team unit; one of the leaders is killed on this missions - a friend of Rayna's - and she escorts the body home. She meets the dead man's father and is soon recruited into a top secret society that he runs called Fidelitas.

Her fiance of many years, a lead singer in the Les Miserables plays on Broadway, turns out to be someone entirely different. He, too, is a member of a different secret society who gets hooked on drugs and gambling and owes them hundreds of thousands of dollars. This results in the leader of the group issuing a contract on Mr. Tanner. While he appears on a side job in a blues bar and plans to propose to Rayna, he is suddenly murdered on the stage by an assassin and dies in her arms. Rayna is relentless in her training with Fidelistas, hoping to get an opportunity to kill the man who issued the contract on the man she loved.

Although short, but unlike many of the other series authors today, this book was complete and didn't end in a cliffhanger. The author claims in a note that all the books within the series will be stand-alone stories and be complete. For this, I applaud the author. The next two books in the series are about 300 pgs. each and I plan to read more about Rayna and her black missions in the coming weeks. Thank you, Mr. Lowe!

am going out on a limb but I think this book is entitled Unholy Alliance as I couldn't find the title of said book anywhere! So with this in mind I can say that the title is NOT a novella! Hopefully Mr. Lowe will forgive me but I found this novel fast paced with racial slurs of people of color. I LOVED Rayna Tan and her gutsy way, couple with the genius Ian whose dad died in the World Trade Towers attack! As the new kid on the team, Ian was in his element and he never wanted to go back to DC where no one took heed to his warnings. From his gift, he hacked into places he could never hack into as a government worker and he discovered after seventy years of hatred a Nazi gramps that they planned to mother of all bombings on the anniversary of the Jewish temple to kill any and everyone they could!… (plus d'informations)

This brief novella introduces Rayna Tan, a beautiful Asian trained by the Canadian Special Forces. Returning from an unsuccessful mission, her decision to lead a quieter life quickly changes as drug dealers kill her boyfriend in front of her. The violence never stops as she fights for survival and answers. The plot also introduces other main characters for the forthcoming series. The fast pace does not allowed much time for character development. Although some transitions are rough, the scene jumping contributes to chaotic life on the run. The intrigue is there but the execution could be better.

The author randomly chose me to receive this book free because I frequently review books within the genre. Although encouraged, I was under no obligation to write a review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

The opening with Noah going home to Hong Kong after his Juris Doctor graduation if filled with action and grab one attention. The plot has bad people, martial arts, and a tiger. Through it all, Noah encounters interesting characters and need to use his physical and mental abilities to save the woman he loves. There is repetition and similar scenes reenacted that bogs down the plot and slow actions. Overall, the violence and characters are you would expect to find when a hero fights underworld thugs.

I received this book through a random giveaway. Although encouraged as a courtesy to provide feedback, I was under no obligation to write a review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
