WOW, WHAT A NOVEL! At first I didn't like Jamie Cameron for her self centered and spoils ways nor for her older sister who always tried to keep her out of trouble! Just released from a clinic for drug and alcohol addition, Jamie headed home to her small town in Illinois, but she never told anyone about her dark secret that set her on a roller coaster from hell, not even her sister. Meanwhile, Kate her sister wanted a baby so badly that she and her husband secretly went to another town for help. The Cameron women go through hell when their Aunt Nina passes, the three women go through different phases in their lives and understand that they all need to change. Through drugs and alcohol addition, to breast cancer, to trying for a baby, these women face their problems on their own. For a book which is not so very long, author Susan Brace Lovell weaves together a deeply moving story which touches upon so many difficult subjects relevant to our current day. Her characters confront with courage the specter of breast cancer, struggles with addiction recovery and mental illness, children denied their childhood, IVF and the emotional challenges attached thereto as well as the boundaries and limitations of people within their respective professions. The main characters are tenderhearted yet quite strong; they overcome tremendous odds and rise as champions. The characters draw on the strength of those who came before and carry on their legacy with honor and grace. This was a lovely and beautifully told story. I regret not having read the first book in this series as I was confused as to the relationship of Helena to Aunt Nina. Eventually, all is made clear.

I am grateful to Goodreads' First Reads and author Susan Brace Lovell for having provided a free copy of this book. Their generosity did not, however, influence this review - the words of which are mine alone.

" I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail." (Faulkner) Written in three voices of one family- dealing with the trials of what life has to throw at them. Cancer, infertility, baby daddy questions...what are the secrets that become the ties that bind? Behold a rainbow ....even while we struggle with angst there are spots of light, while we struggle we get glimpses of the what the end of the rainbow holds for us, no matter what brings about those tears there is the positivity of love, whether family or romantic.
This is a book that would be great choice for a book club or to pass around with friends.
