This book is both excellent and strange. The middle of the book concentrates on the Barrier minefield and what followed from that, which is excellent. I think it really excels at showing how the minefield affected operations, right down to individual incidents and the men involved. I think it strange because the author has a political position that he pushes, particularly in the first few chapters. He gives a lot of legitimately to the Communists but mostly ignores the South Vietnamese. I nearly gave up reading the book as I found it so off putting. Glad I stuck with it, if those early chapters had been better the book would have had four and a half stars.½
