Courte biographie
Věra Linhartová was born in Brno, Czechoslovakia and studied art history at Masaryk University in Prague and Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, and aesthetics at Charles University in Prague. She worked in several modern art galleries in the 1960s and was involved with the Surrealist group in Prague. She contributed articles and stories to the young writers' journal Tvář. Her first book, Intersection of the Near Past, was published in 1964. In 1968, following the Soviet invasion of her country, she went to live in Paris. There she began writing in French. She also studied Japanese at the Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales (National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations) and earned a Ph.D. at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan.

She edited and translated Dada et Surréalisme au Japon (1987), and is the author of numerous collections of short stories, poetry, and essays, as well as catalogues for art exhibitions. She has also translated works by French authors, including Raymond Queneau and Roger Gilbert-Lecomte, into Czech.
