Chris…you will always be a must read author for me! I love vigilante stories and Chris Lewando has outdone herself in The Loyalty of Children, Book III of the Suffer The Little Children series. I love walking on the dark side of life through words, wallowing in the filth of humanity, the dregs of society. I, also, like seeing them get their comeuppance.

Chris Lewando’s writing style speaks to me. Below is just one example of how in sync we are. She is talking about watching the news, which Dee and I don’t do.

“…What good does it really do to ‘know’ what horrible things are happening if we don’t act? And most of us don’t have that freedom, we’re too busy just hanging in there with our family and financial dramas to get out and make a difference. And I guess that’s just what the politicians need us to do.”

The Suffer The Little Children series may be fiction, but it has the ring of truth when describing the villains and the depths they will go to to scratch their itch. There are a lot of triggers in the series, so if you don’t have a strong stomach and a need for vengeance…BEWARE.

I love Dee, a character that I could never be. Feisty doesn’t begin to describe her. To face what she faces, a sense of humor does come in handy. Living on the run, constantly picking up her bag and moving to the next place. She knows how dangerous her life is, but that doesn’t stop her from doing what she feels needs to be done. She does not run from danger, but takes a methodical approach to meeting it head on. How will her story end?

…the criminal mindset is new to me; it’s a leaning curve. I wonder if I’ll live long enough to get the certificate.

Mikey…WTF…I don’t even know what to say. The author’s end note tells how Mikey came to be and I had to research it and find out more for myself. I love when an author has me doing research, arousing my curiosity, making me have to know more.

The ending….oh man, I did not see that coming. I couldn’t figure out how Chris Lewando would wrap it up and I love that she caught me so off guard. I would love to crawl around in her head. BUT, I hate that the story was over. I have to know what comes next for Dee, her father, Amy, Greg, and all the other characters that work together to save the children. I feel there must be more coming….

WARNING: Abduction. Sex trafficking of children.

First…though I feel you The Price Of Children by Chris Lewando can stand alone, I do recommend reading The Silence Of Children first. If you can handle the difficult subject of trafficked children and the evil men that prey on them.

The Price Of Children by Chris Lewando does open with events from the first book to catch you up in case you haven’t read it.

Now, Deidre and her dad are on the run from, not just the FBI, but the “Vampire Dude” and Deidre knows if her finds her, he will kill her.

I do love that it takes a vigilante to bring their dastardly deeds to light and keep it shining on them., but I also understand why people can’t be allowed to take the law into their own hands. I sure don’t want to go back to the world being like the Wild West.

Parents selling their children…sickening. I don’t even know what to say about that, other than turn about is fair play. Maybe their punishment should be the crime, ya know?

And the pedophiles…one thing caught my attention. Chris Lewando had the character talking about pedophilia being a disease, which in itself is no different than any other disease. It is the person that acts on those desires, knowing they are wrong, that is the problem. I guess, if you are born that way, there is nothing you can do about it, but you can control your actions. Like a sociopath, or psychopath, that keeps themselves in check. Something to think about.

Deidre has had to learn in a different world. She learns as she runs. It takes her some time to find her place, but with everything that has been thrown her way, I can see the maze would be hard to navigate. She keeps on keeping on, though.

I love Greg, the motorcycle dude. He flits in and out of her life and she wonders what part he is meant to play in her new life. Will he stick around? Who is he really? She needs someone to watch her back. But, what life can they have, always on the run. Constantly hunted. Danger all around.

Chris Lewando’s writing reads like a psychological breakdown of life and all it’s depravities. Her fiction can make us face our imperfections, our humanity, our compassion. What’s important in life…and where do YOU draw the line? What are you willing to do, when you see wrong being done.

Wonderful, brave characters: Dad, Deidre, Greg, Amy, Kev, Richie, the peripherals shine as bright as the main characters and I hope to get more of some their stories in future books.

The Price Of Children by Chris Lewando stops at a good place, setting me up for the next book…and I hope you are writing fast, Chris. The steady pace the suspense at a high level and I want more!

I love stories about vigilante justice and psychological thrillers. This is my first Chris Lewando book and I am looking forward to reading it.

Deidre is a solitary creature. She cracks me up and I can totally relate to her. She studied psychology, but switched to law. She had stepped into her job not even knowing she would be good at it.

She’d had all she could want as a child, a privileged life, until her dad, a pediatrician, was pushed out because of a baby snatching scandal. There had been children, boys and girls, disappearing. Now, someone is asking questions. Why now?

Her sister has a busy life, a husband and children, so an impromptu visit is not a simple thing. But there is more to the visit than just catching up. These questions and Deidre’s need for answers has her worried.

This is one of those books I find hard to share, because I don’t want to spoil anything for you I will say, we have our share of bad ‘guys’ and good ‘guys’. How it will al unravel I cannot say, but I am definitely eager to find out. We have subterfuge, danger, some trying to do the right thing and some trying to stop them.

Children’s lives are on the line. Kidnapping, sex trafficking, unfit parents that hate their children they brought into the world…and who is going to stand up for them, save them from evil?

It’s not easy to tell who to trust. I have a good feeling about one man, because she needs someone to love, someone to show her the good things in life. Someone to show her there is more to life than work and a glass of wine while reading vampire romances. Love that touch. Now, maybe you can see why Deidre speaks to me.

Chris Lewando has kept the pacing moving right along with mystery, suspense and, yes, some disgusting villains who I wished the worst. The one surprise I figured out pretty early, but I still loved the twist. I will definitely keep my eye on Chris Lewando.

The characters in this book are so real and interesting that I was driven to keep reading. The plot added to my compulsion. I liked the intelligence and quality of the writing. Although this book revolves around a harrowing issue, the author has chosen to write one step away from the issue, so the book can be read without veering away in panic.
