Lawrence L. Lapin

A fantastic resource. Since it covers Probability and Statistical Methods for an Engineering Student, it isn't really dated. It's unique to see a book from 1983, since it focuses on nothing but the mathematics involved in the problem. This book doesn't really contain pictures, it only contains images of graphs, which is how I like my textbooks. Some of the information i.e. the examples might be dated, but the formulations are not.

For instance, one of the example problems asks about the manufacture of floppy disks as inquired by a maker of mainframe computers. Now just in that sentence there are two antiquated pieces of technology; the floppy diskette and the mainframe computer, but the question requires you to use the Binomial Distribution to figure out the answer. As far as I know, that mathematical equation has not gone out of style.

Like I mentioned before, it is refreshing to find a textbook that doesn't have portraits of the founders and images of what they are asking about in the questions. If you can find a copy, it might be worth your while to look into it.… (plus d'informations)
