Christian de La Mazière (1922–2006)

The story of a Frenchmen who enlisted in the Waffen SS in late 1944 after the Allied landings in Normandy. The Author was a right-wing journalist during the German occupation and decided to fight against Communism while he could. It's a strange read, while each chapter is in chronological order, each chapter is like a complete story. One chapter on deciding to join, one on his training in the Waffen SS and so on and so forth. It keeps the book interesting. I found it hard to understand his decision and I was constantly amazed at his naivety, he tries to sound worldy wise but wasn't. An interesting story of an interesting man in an interesting time, even after reading the authors own account I find it hard to be sympathetic. Ultimately this is the story of a traitor and that in it's self is of interest.… (plus d'informations)
