This is a usrprising volume, in a way. After a brief inreoduction to the geography amnd geology of Kutch, Gujarat, it launches into a series of one-page portraits of the birds, with actual photographs apparently taken on-site (and not from some internet archive), and brief points on the birds in question. One wonders at the persistence and patience that must have gone into this book, evidence of the authors' passion for the subject. Also, one wonders at the multitude of species in each group, all of a similar type and appearance, which really requires skill on the identifier's part: witness the numerous birds of prey in their confusing plumages, the warblers and chat-like groups, the ibises (a surprise!), the waders, and so on and on.
