Deborah Knox

Another capable but unremarkable update of my favourite Austen novel Emma. Although more or less just Clueless in book form, I was pleasantly entertained by Deborah Knox's adaptation - and warmed to this Emma and George (somebody kept his name! Woohoo!) more than Cher and Josh. Teenage American Emma has none of the 'little faults' that make the original character such a 'Marmite' (love her or hate her) personality, however - all the edges have been filed off. Oh, and what is the fascination with 'plopped' for a verb? Can't people just sit down? That's two books in quick succession which have been over-fond of characters 'plopping' down. But anyway, a good introduction to Jane Austen's novel for those who can't be bothered reading it.… (plus d'informations)
