Old English: An Introduction par R.J. Kispert
It's an introduction, but not an easy one. Not to be read for fun, except for the chapter on Anglo-Saxon scholarship. He does us many excerpts from manuscripts in showing how Old English worked. Some knowledge of phonetics is required -- and would be for any book on the development of any language.
