The authors feel that the leadership of the UUMA has become autocratic and more like the orthodox models of organization. The "Fifth Principle"--"The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large"--is identified as a movement and a basis for support of this challenge to certain actions taken by the leadership of the UU.
