A history of the Cumberland Gap, the Wilderness Road that was the route taken by thousands of immigrants and Atlantic seaboard residents to lands in Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky. Plenty of maps and pictures make following the events from 1644 to the 1940s reasonably easy. A lot of surprising characters make an appearance in the book, whose stories are part of the Road. A labor of love for Kincaid, The Wilderness Road is a well-written book on a fascinating subject.½
