Helane Keating

This book follows the story of two siblings (a big brother and a little sister). The sister claims to have lost her cat, but the brother says that it is his cat. The Care Bears hear about their lost cat and sibling argument and decide to come to their aid. They help the kids find their cat and bring them closer in their sibling relationship. The cat ended up having babies and the siblings learned to share their new litter of kitty friends. Care Bears was a show back in my day that I watched as a kid. The care bears help people out and teach others how to “care” just like they do. The illustrations are very realistic when it comes to the humans and the animals. The humans look more like real people than other books portray humans as. A possible class discussion could be about what it means to share. The class could talk to their neighbors about a time when they were struggling to share or when they did share with a friend or family member. They can talk about how sharing is good and how it can be hard sometimes. A teacher could use this in the classroom to teach his/her students the importance of sharing at home, at school, or just in general.
