Having recently interviewed Dr. Herman Kagan, and finding his life story/viewpoints to be very interesting, I decided I would read his most recent book: “Faith, Supernatural Beliefs & Our Symbolic Brain.” I know the title is a mouthful, but don’t be worried – “Faith, Supernatural Beliefs & Our Symbolic Brain” is a great book. It’s an easy-to-read, well-written compilation that explains (in layman’s terms) quite a bit about human psychology, both past and present.

In “Faith, Supernatural Beliefs & Our Symbolic Brains” Dr. Kagan explains how mankind has been endowed with a symbolic brain that helps us to survive and adapt. This uniqueness has helped us survive, and evolve, probably since the dawn of time. However, there is a possible downside to this aspect of ourselves, as it also allows our brains to be open to true and/or false beliefs.

I don’t want to provide too much of the book’s message in this review, but I will say that I found “Faith, Symbolic Beliefs & Our Symbolic Brain” to be an extremely interesting read. It was loaded with multiple scenarios, various case studies and as I read I definitely had a few “aha, that’s why that happens!” moments. *chuckle*

In summary, an impartial and honestly written thought provoking read...
