If you read Weight of the Crown then you know what you getting a fast based story with no time to breath and lots of different Pov's my Favourites are Nicolas and Xasho,I would have rated this higher but the story went so fast that we didn't get to know the non POV characters and history of Organisation a bit better which I was expecting in the second book of the series. I would have loved to known more about Padri Jon or the history of the Sestri for Example,Would I read the next sequel? Yes because I would like to see where the story goes.

Excellent adventure story. The story does have a lot of threads that interestingly woven into an adventure story that is worth the read. I thought it started a little slow but once you have made it into the story it is kind of hard to put down. Love the beginning and ending and really can not wait for the second installment. Was a great way to spend an afternoon in the sun.

This was a fun fantasy, an interesting quick read. The author provided many different perspectives from the three kingdoms. I am an avid fan of fantasy, so this was right up my alley.

Very impressive debut book. The characters are quite vivid and interesting. I only took off half a star because of the fact that pretty much all the main characters met by chance exactly who they needed to meet for the story to progress. Unless there's some kind of explanation of why that happened later on, that's a bit too much to take. But really looking forward to read the next part of the story!½

It took me a while to actually pick this book up and read it, but once I did I finished it quickly. This book was very enjoyable and I love how the author let's the reader think for him/herself. You are able to form your own opinion about the characters and situations rather than the author telling you what the think or feel. I enjoy the historical fantasy genre and wish I had picked this book up sooner instead of letting it sit by the wayside. It was interesting and different and I hope there is a sequel soon.

I enjoyed reading the multiple viewpoints of various individuals from different regions of the kingdom. There were some I gravitated towards more than others, like Jeina and Xasho, but as the story developed, each viewpoint became more and more engaging. I didn't feel like the viewpoints (save for a couple) really came together, and maybe they weren't supposed to, but I felt a bit unresolved at the end. I guess I was waiting for one significant final event that didn't happen. I was disappointed too in the ending because I felt unresolved. It seemed to end too suddenly, like it was just at the precipice of the climax, with no denouement. As a longer story with so much lead up to the final outcome, I was hoping for more. Altogether though, I found it an enjoyable read.

This book is a fantasy about three kingdoms at war and covers all three sides. Mr. Kaeden was very good at making you want to like every character. I was drawn in from the first page and the only fault I had was it ended on a clift hanger. I wanted to know what happens to the characters that I had grown to care for. I hope the sequel is close behind this book. I would recommend this story to anyone who likes sword play as well as stories of self discovery.

This is the story of several different characters who, at first, seem to have nothing in common - a female prisoner in a work camp, a newly named warrior, and a young metal-working apprentice who has strange fits which endanger not only his livelihood but his life. But, as the story progresses, their stories begin to come together in very strange ways.

I have to say right at the beginning I am a huge fan of fantasy and I loved this book! It grabbed me right at the first page and held my interest to the very last. My only complaint - it ends on a cliffhanger and I want - no, I need - to know what happens next. I hope the sequel is coming out soon because I so hate to wait for the next book.½

Enjoyed Very Much-
One unusual thing I will say at the outset. Who's side am I "supposed" to be on? Who is the protagonist, who is the antagonist? Most books make it clear at the beginning who you, the reader, should be rooting for. Not this one! Mr. Kaeden spent an equal amount of time developing both "sides" of the story. My "cheering" continually flipped from one set of characters to the other...I finally found myself rooting both sides on! I was sad when the book ended...I want more...more!!! I like stories with kings and kingdoms, magic, sword fights, people who grow through battling moral dilemmas and come out better than when they went in, mysteries, quests, etc. This book has it all! Give it a try!
I can't wait to find out what happens next!

I won this book through Early Reviewers and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There were many stories being told at the same time but the author was able to bring all the characters and plots together in a way that made perfect sense. I'm not a fan of fantasy/sci-fi type books but I would love to read the rest of this series! Thanks so much to the author!

Once I was able to establish the characters and the main story I was truly captivated. I loved the world the author created here. Real and with all those elements you expect from a book of this nature. Battles, ancient creatures, greater wisdom and the characters you love to love and love to hate. I also liked the way the characters and their stories inevitably connect and possibly will in the sequel. There is a glossary of characters which I wanted to point out is at the end of the book and a brilliant place for it, as once you have actually read it you can re-establish who the characters are as opposed to the beginning of a book when you have no clue and will never retain all of it until the end anyway.

This book is great! I immediately liked the characters and the plot was unique. There's a cool horrible monster involved that gave me goosebumps to think about it. The book is made so that the story is told from 5 point of views of the different characters. That makes it interesting if a bit confusing at times.
As far as a short summary goes, it's something like this: A monster is about to be released into the world to the bidding of a demented mountain king. Only Jeina knows about it. The Curashenas are planning revenge against the Blood Marsh, and are gathering at the Heart of Sand, deep in the desert. Xasho, a Curashena, is sent on an assassination mission with his two mysterious daggers. The fate of Esmoria is in the hands of a few rejects and runaways.
The summary is poor but I didn't want to give anything away, because it's just that fabulous. I couldn't stop reading once I started. I loved every bit of it and I highly recommend it to everyone.
