Excellent thriller. Character of Kurt Miller is just fantastic - person devoted to his country, highly professional and aware of internal games played in the shadowy corridors of power. But then he gets betrayed by his country's close allies and jailed for a year and half on false charges. This might not be much by someones standards but when you do it to a man who takes integrity very seriously you have made a serious mistake.

Writer gives a good comparison of political demagogues - they are same in any time, be it WW1, WW2 or today. And their ability to hypnotize the masses is as terrifying as ever.

Highly recommended.

Detective George Hastings has a case he doesn't want, and then when he's dismissed from the case, he wants to continue it. Why is he so interested in Senator Preston and his fear of possibly being attacked or killed by a mysterious man?

John Reese is suddenly released from jail by two goons who want to kill him, but John escapes. He has one goal, to go after the guy who wrongly put him in prison in the first place. Will he accomplish his goal?

I enjoy this series that takes place in St. Louis and like Hastings personality.… (plus d'informations)

This is the first in the George Hastings mystery series that takes place in St. Louis where Hastings is a policeman/detective. I didn't care for the language but the plot was good enough to keep me reading. It wasn't a page turner, but wasn't overly slow either. The case Hastings worked on involved two local cops getting machine gunned down and trying to figure out the reason for it and who was responsible.

Lieutenant Hastings has to figure out who kidnapped a billionaire's daughter for ransom, who also killed her boyfriend. Very few clues to go on in the beginning, but then some clues lead to a break in the case. Good plot and descriptive characters, but too much filthy language that doesn't add to the story. I also like reading about places I know in the St. Louis area.
