"Fiddle Tune a Day ... Day63: Timour the Tartar: This tune was written by James M. Hunter. He was born in Lennoxtown Stirlingshire. He studied at the Royal Scottish Acadamy of Music and Drama Glasgow and at Trinity College in Dublin. The traditional music of Scotland was a lifelong interest of his, and he collected and arranged many traditional airs. For some years he taught music at Aberdeen Grammar School. He joined the BBC in 1965 as a radio producer specialising in the production of folk music programmes. In 1969 he organised the National Fiddle Competition for the BBC. In 1972 he directed for television the film 'Mr Menuhin's Welcome to Blair' in which the world-famous violinist explored the art of traditional fiddling."
