Possum's Harvest Moon by Anne Hunter is a charming and enchanting tale that celebrates the magic of friendship, community, and the beauty of the harvest season. Through lyrical prose and whimsical illustrations, Hunter transports readers to the heart of the forest, where Possum embarks on a delightful adventure to bring light and warmth to his friends' harvest celebration.

Before hibernation, animals enjoy " dancin' in the moonlight...everybody feelin' warm and right!"
A cute fall read, with beautiful illustrations.

While I get the purpose of the book (Babies learning words and then not shutting up......) I struggle with that. Especially when we should be embracing their newfound development.

Here's a cute and rather predictable story of a friendly baby squirrel whose lively presence annoys the neighbors until one of them is goaded into unkindness. The little squirrel stays home the next day, and the other animals realize they miss the baby despite the childish behavior that irritated them. The animals of the forest learn patience, but did the baby squirrel learn anything? It left me with the feeling that if you're cute, small, and beloved it doesn't matter if you're inconsiderate. I would have liked some indication that the baby took a step toward learning to be polite.

The pen and colored pencil illustrations are effective, with only the baby, the sun, and the tulips in a flash of warm color. The rest are nicely sketched in black and white. My favorite is the baby squirrel with its mother, curled up safely in their nest.

Illustrated with verve and charm, this is a somewhat disappointing story. Baby Squirrel gets on the nerves of his forest neighbours, in part for good reason, and in part for little cause. The shift comes when he doesn't come out and everyone misses him - but again, for no reason. No matter how objectively irritating he was, he is missed - a vindication that he did absolutely nothing to bring about. This is cheap grace at work - no change of habit, politeness or consideration is required from Baby Squirrel, and it feels false because it is false.

Baby squirrel is a bundle of energy, and goes about greeting all the other forest creatures with no consideration of their habits or needs. How will Baby learn to be more considerate of her neighbors? This book features colorful artwork, and short clear sentences or panels on each page, and we learn how Baby Squirrel, and all creatures, can learn to be considerate of each other's needs.

A relatable story for a children to understand that sometimes too much energy is too much for some people and it's okay for others to ask for space.

Sort of an interesting little book. If I'm going to be critical, I think the book could have used more colorful ilustration. The only animal in color was "Baby," the baby squirrel. While this was probably done on purpose to show how Baby added color and life to the forest that was drab without him, kids books need vibrancy all over the page. Also, teaching kids who will relate to baby that they are the only interesting thing in the world implies that they have nothing to learn from the world that is in reality full of vibrant people, is odd. I know this is a harsh review, but I would likely lean toward reading my kid another book before I picked up this one! Nothing horribly wrong, just not my cup of tea.

A sweet simple tale of a mischievous, slightly annoying baby squirrel and their forest adventures...until one day Baby doesn't show up! This book offers a storyline on the surface for younger readers and some deeper meaning for older readers as well. And who can't relate with missing someone who they find a bit bothersome? Certainly anyone with siblings!

Baby Squirrel is so excited! He is a bundle of energy--a bright whir of brown and orange in this beautifully illustrated story. Baby accidentally wakes Grumpy Owl whoooo gives Baby a sharp retort to be quiet. So Baby does until the other animals and Owl realize that they miss Baby and their antics. It is a sweet story but I agree that it doesn't read as smoothly as I hoped. Sometimes the story and the word bubbles clash making it a clunky read-aloud. A quick read that was enjoyable and fun.

Baby the squirrel gets into mischief, jumping on all the other forest animals' food and waking up Owl. Their rejection leads Baby to retreat to the little squirrel hole as the other animals realize that they actually miss the little squirrel's friendship. This simple story with sweet and engaging illustrations is sure to please.

This is a follow-up to Anne Hunter's Where's Baby picture book. As in that book, the baby is the only spot of color in the pictures, although this time it is a baby squirrel whose enthusiasm for life gets a little long in the tooth for some of the other woodland creatures. When one of them finally snaps at baby, he disappears, and then everyone realizes the joy he brings each day. They go looking for him, and we hope that they come to some type of understanding.

I loved the pictures, the story is timeless, but I thought the pacing between the words and pictures didn't flow as smoothly as it could have. The reader might have to adjust their speed a bit to make it work if reading aloud.

Baby squirrel has energy to burn. He wakes every morning and greets all the woodland creatures with exuberance. All the animals do not appreciate his company when he interferes with their meals or wakes them up. They do learn to appreciate him when he doesn’t show up with his friendly energy. The story is sweet and the illustrations have soothing calm backgrounds that use special color to help emphasize squirrel and his personality. The facial expressions of the animals do a lot to help tell the story.

Baby Squirrel wakes up with energy, curiosity, and speed every day. So much so that the other animals in the woodland have tired of it. Owl is cross with Baby Squirrel for waking him, which results in a scolding. Baby Squirrel's feelings are hurt. No one likes to be scolded for who they are, and Baby Squirrel is no exception. When Baby Squirrel doesn't appear the next morning the other animals find themselves missing him.

An exuberant young squirrel drives the other animals crazy by his incessant cheerfulness - until he retreats desolately to his tree home with mother. Now the animals realise just how much they miss his cheer.

"Baby Mouse talked, and talked, and talked. Mama needed a little quiet." Baby Mouse explores the outdoors, meeting friends and talking all the while (speech bubble filled with "squeak squeak squeak"). When Mama wakes from her nap, she finds Baby by following the squeaks.

Cute, brief picture book with the same conceit as the Scarry classic "Little Bear's Bedtime" -- parents pretending to look for their kid when they know all along where the kid is. The youngest readers will have fun spotting totally obvious Baby on every page.

If I were restricted to buying only one bedtime book (instead of the many I do have!), this would be The ONE!
A lovely poem and illustrations suitable for all ages!

This is a very simple but enjoyable book. The illustrations are cute and interactive. On each set of pages you can ask a child to see if they can spot baby, who is hiding somewhere on each page. It is also a good opportunity to learn about simple prepositions like "over", "under", and "inside". The cast of characters would allow for a reader to make up some great voices as well.

Toddlers are one of the most difficult audiences to reach when writing or reading books. Anne Hunter makes it look easy in the charming book, Where's Baby?

Papa Fox looks high and low for Baby, calling out in a large word bubble each time, "Ba-by!" He asks if Baby is up in the tree, inside the log, under the water, etc. Each time, someone is there, but it's not Baby. Skunk replies, "I am inside the log, but I am not your baby. Go away!"

Gentle illustrations in ballpoint pen and colored pencils make it easy to spot Baby hiding in each spread. Blues and grays dominate the color palette, but Baby's brown coloring will help even the youngest of listeners spot his hiding places. Readers will suspect that Papa knows all along where Baby is hiding, and they will be right. Baby can't wait to play again!

Elements of grammar (location prepositions), fun (seek and find), and comfort (love of family) are all found in Where's Baby?
