I purchased and read this book to acquire online CEU's for psychology. As a textbook, it is an excellent review of the research that has examined variables related to the assessment of giftedness from children to the elderly, as well as the factors that play key roles in allowing individuals to apply their gifted potential towards significant achievements in various fields. Diversity variables are a particular focus of the book and there are several chapters that focus on how to help disadvantaged youth to achieve their potential. As is typical for the field of psychology, this text was rather dry and more theoretical in nature. As a primer for educators, researchers, advocates, or those who create educational policy, this book would probably be quite valuable. However, as a clinician, this book did not particularly give me new ideas about how I will approach my work with gifted youth or gifted adults.
