- Countess Walburga von Hohenthal was a German aristocrat who served as a lady-in-waiting and longtime friend of Princess Victoria, wife of the heir to the Prussian throne, Prince Frederick William (the future Emperor Frederick III). In 1860, she married Sir Augustus Paget, a British diplomat and son of the Earl of Uxbridge. As Lady Paget, she became close to the Danish royal family while her husband served as British ambassador to Copenhagen. She was a lifelong friend of Princess Alexandra of Denmark and played a role in her 1863 arranged marriage to the Prince of Wales (the future King Edward VII). Beautiful and vivacious, Lady Paget also was a favorite of Queen Victoria. Lady Paget produced several volumes of memoirs: Scenes and Memories (1912), Embassies of Other Days (1923), and the two-volume work In My Tower (1924) and The Linings of Life (1928).
