Printed directly from the original manuscript (such as it was), and the reproduction of the woodcuts is sometimes a bit rough, cutting off a piece of a word of the caption where the caption extends beyond the boundaries of the picture. On the other hand, those woodcuts alone are worth reading the book.

I can recommend "Wild Bill Hickman and the Mormon Frontier" by Hope A. Hilton as a more rational (and easier to read) discussion of the life of this strange, strange man.½
