Written in 1911 and set in the same era, this book gives you access to what the world was like at that time. Life style, manners, dress and attitudes.

As far as the mystery part, this isn't a typical mystery. No dead bodies, missing anything, harm against person or property. The mystery is a bout the attraction between a guy and a gal and why they cannot get together.

Young Professor Crosby has planned to spend summer abroad. While waiting in the train station he sees a girl he met previously at some friends home. On impulse he boards the train to meet up with her again. While on the train they both realize they are attracted to each other, but won't acknowledge it to each other.

While on the train, there is an accident. She is a bit shaken so he offers to see her to her home. He is offered accommodations for the night, but is suddenly asked to leave without any reason. This is where the mystery comes in. Why was he asked to leave so abruptly? What is the secret that the household seems to be hiding? Why does the girl tell him they should no see each other, but then sends for him in the middle of the night asking for help?

It is well written, and the plot ties together pretty well. The 3 stars is because it isn't really my cup of tea.
