Before starting on the review, I do have to say the author is a friend of mine, so there is a little bias. Also, I have to admit this is my first foray into the world of Women''s Romance novels. Not being a woman further separates myself from the subject matter, so again, take that into account as well. I have been assured that the style of writing contained in this book is par for the course in the genre, and I'll take that at face value if it means not having to read another. It's not really my thing, that's all I'm sayin'.

The general plot and story line I did like. Two thousand years ago, a nauseatingly perfect couple have their per idyllic life ruined by a couple of witches. But that's not all...the man is cursed to be reborn and occasionally reconnect with his lost love...only to stop the cycle, she must die by fire. The story bounces through several time lines, a Celtic tribe 2000 years ago, a 17th century Scottish village during the time of witch trials, and the modern day.

The story I thought has a lot of potential, just as some of those late night shows on the dark corners of cable have potential to be better than the softcore pulp actually produced. Editing in this book was terrible. The pacing rather reminded me of Filipino or Mexican dramas where characters are prone to sudden emotional outbursts for reasons that are usually beyond my understanding.

Other issues are a matter of style and execution, but some could be from my desire to this to be more mainstream than it is. If i had read this prior to publication, I might have suggested the story be broken into three (or more), with more time spent on developing the charaters. Too much happens too quickly; if the characters in the book admit to being confused by it all, what chance does the reader have?
