In The Walking Artist, Hamish Fulton documents his peripatetic self and its relationship to the world through which it moves. Fulton--born in London in 1946--initially studied sculpture, but in 1969 he turned to an artistic activity based on walking and graphic record of the walk. The Walking Artist documents various ''walking pieces'' from the early 1970s to the present day. One of the most innovative and interesting characters to make a place for himself in the 1960s British art scene, Hamish Fulton developed a personal art form based on walking. Through photographs and texts, colors and words, this artists's book represents the space and time covered by Fulton during a 43-day coast-to-coast walk. On the pavements, roads, and paths of Portugal, Spain, the Basque Region, the Pyrenees, and France, Fulton trod a trail that started at the mouth of the Douro river in Porto and ended at the delta of the river Ebro in Catalonia.… (plus d'informations)

This book artfully documents “a twenty day walking journey from Dumdre to Leder in Manang and back to Pokhara by way of Khudi”. The pages are filled with bright red line drawings of symbols and the outlines of mountains, trees, and energies. Each drawing is accompanied by a brief phrase that describes its inspiration.
