This book fascinated me. Why? Because I never realized the intricate planning which went on for a convoy. Every 'after-action' report was detailed and studied carefully. As the war went on, consultants, believe it or not, figured out how many ships should be in a convoy, how they should be arranged, how many escorts a convoy should have. Eventually what was known as the Allied Inter-Locking Convoy system controlled every merchant ship of the Western Allies.
