Short, weak, and dull, it is an article stretched into a book that makes one solid point: despite two horrific months in the Norman summer, the Canadian reinforcement system kept people and equipment flowing, with units at 90% or more of establishment through most of the last 11 months of war. He has ferreted out some good DND files (mostly statistical summaries) for this, but lengthy sections - in fact, almost entire chapters - are plodding textual summaries of this, and nowhere is there any sense of personality, leadership, innovation, or accountability. Hyperbolic, tautological nonsense about Canadian invincibility also intrudes here and there, which blunts the argument: at this time, several European resistance groups, the Red Army, the French Army, the Chetniiks, and the American juggernaut were all making mincemeat of the astonishingly resilient Germans.
