As a non-Texan, I had recently visited the Statehouse in Austin, and was reminded how infrequently the Texas legislatures meet. I thought that was strange at the time, and wondered how that came to pass. Erica Grieder's book explained a lot about the size and attitude of the Texas government, and the reasons behind it. I felt she did a good job explaining both the very good points of Texas (job growth, low taxes, etc.), and some of the less favorable sides of Texas (low wages, high numbers of medically uninsured).
