It doesn't get much more serious than believing that the world would be better off if you were dead. This book may be able to help.

Negative thoughts are going to come; don't try to fight it. Let them come, let them stay for a few minutes, and then let them leave. Learn the value of the word "No." Use it every now and then. Your mental health is more important than helping everyone, all the time. Eating healthier, or getting a good night's sleep, may help. Let go of any grudges you are holding. A grudge does not hurt the other person at all; the only person it hurts is you. This does not mean that you should forgive or forget what happened. Emotionally, you have better things to do than hold on to that anger (for how long?).

On the positive side, start a gratitude journal. No matter how bleak things may be, there must be something you are grateful for (good health, a roof over your head). Keep it, and read it when you are having a bad day. Have you considered chanting? It may feel silly to chant "Om" continuously; it may also help. Have you considered affirmations? Repeat some of these sentences often enough, and it may start to have a favorable effect inside (All my emotions are valid. I am enough. This too shall pass. I am grateful for my life.).

This is a gem of a book. It's okay to read it a chapter at a time, incorporate that chapter into your life, then read the next chapter. It is very much recommended for everyone.
