It's still the very beginning of the year but I'm going to call it, this will be the best book of 2018 for me.

Lays out with perfect clarity the fine line that women (particularly women with children out of wedlock - gasp!) must walk to even be allowed to exist without being abused and degraded. Gore's retelling of various fairy tales throughout the book outlining how impossible it can be to be female are amazing.

I loved this book so much I bought my own copy halfway through reading the library one.… (plus d'informations)

I loved this book. It's intense and surprising and funny. The Buddhists say enlightenment isn't found on a mountaintop but by going deeper into layers of feeling. Likewise, Ariel Gore digs down through the muck of potential to bring real beauty and personal power back to the surface. And she doesn't even need a climactic explosion to do it. The book is brilliant.

[b:Santa Fe Noir|45838044|Santa Fe Noir|Ariel Gore|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1557944629l/45838044._SY75_.jpg|70646656] is another excellent entry in Akashic Books noir series of anthologies. Like any anthology, some stories are better than others. However, I've yet to find any of their noir series that I didn't enjoy. I especially enjoyed the stories taking place outside the actual city, and in the surrounding mountains. This is a great collection of hard boiled crime stories.
