This is certainly an interesting view into 1890s Germany, the working conditions, the social conditions and the political & religious conditions. It involved the author going 'undercover' in a factory in the city of Chemnitz in the state of Saxony, Germany.

What I found particularly noteworthy is that it would appear to accurately predict the rise of the Nazi/DAP (German Workers' Party) movement, and the coming shift toward more violent agitation for change. The closing remarks of the book in fact attempt to outline the danger of such a future and attempt to prevent it by creating the Evangelican Social Congress (which obviously failed).

Whilst it's quite a dry read, it does nonetheless illustrate the era in German history from a first person view as it unfolded being written mere months after the study was made, and the challenges workers faced at that time.
