The MC is supposed to be strong and kickass and it comes across as if the author truly believes she is actually writing a character like that.
But in reality, the MC is a weak-willed pushover that constantly makes stupid decisions.
She thinks about a decision, points out to the reader that it is stupid, decides to do it anyway, and then it turns out it was indeed stupid and she ends up suffering consequences. That's the loop these books cycle. I've read ca. 65% and it never changes, round and round.

Beyond that, the plot couldn't be more clichée. The protagonists, as well as the antagonist, are so deeply stereotypical that it borders on parody.

And then there are plot holes everywhere. But the typical plot holes aren't contradictions in the world-building or the magic. Both are way too fuzzy to have any strong rules that could be contradicted in the first place. The plot holes consist of completely illogical and absurd thought processes. Sometimes it's just a plain TSTL MC, but missing common sense affects all characters pretty much equally. This is typically only the case if flawed logic is needed to steer the plot. But it's pretty much the only tool the author uses to steer the plot and it happens constantly.

I am surprised by how little attention this book has received.
It's nothing special but it does what it does better than a lot of books with 50 times the ratings and the same average.
I think this is a good example of how much of a difference a famous name and a big publisher can make.
The main difference between this story and other werewolf pack stories is that there is no romance or love interest worth mentioning. (Maybe that's the issue?) A lot of what this book does I would categorize as young-adult but I can see why someone decided against that label.

Now let's get to the actual book. There were a few things that irritated me.
This book makes use of a very effective tool in a blunt way to keep engagement high which I don't like. Injustice because of prejudice and use of influence behind the curtain against the underdogs. But the entire thing felt forced and unbelievable. If someone is powerful enough to influence Police investigations he should be smart enough to trap his "accidentally" bitten werewolves without alarming them first to what he is up to for example. A lot of the plot relies on the stupidity of supposedly smart, ruthless, influential, and powerful people, which always rubs me the wrong way.
The unjust treatment of the underdog has a very strong allure regardless of the rather crude setup.
Despite these complaints, I have seen much worse in that department.
I have a hard time putting this next one into words. The world feels small. There are no connections that reach into the world beyond the core plot and its actors. This ensures a fast pace but even tho I generally enjoy fast pacing, in this case, it makes it hard for me to buy into the world itself because there is nothing to buy into there. There basically is no general worldbuilding at all.

This gets really stupid later into the series but this segment is just too short to spot any of that yet.
See my review on my attempt at reading the full box set.

After giving the first book the benefit of the doubt and because it was more an introduction to the cast this second book just hadn't enough to offer to keep me interested.
It mostly just did more of the same.
In regards to the perceived world size, this book did a bit better but overall it just felt too scripted and forced to be believable.
This book, again, suffers from very stupid bad guys and a lot of convenient coincidences.
On top of that, it started unnecessary foreshadowing via visions which almost always just hurts the story.
It seems like it just imitates a lot of things seen in similar successful books without fully understanding what those tools are meant to accomplish.
Most of the shortcomings of this book and the one before probably are only so visible to me because I have read lots of books in this genre.
I can imagine people having a blast without a lot of prior experience in the urban fantasy area but for me, it just wasn't enough.

My Thoughts:
Being the third book, I can say with confidence that this series is a keeper!

At first I did not like the way Ceri is keeping secrets because it seems like the start of the breaking-up of the pack! It soon made sense after reading a little bit further.

The author has added a new twist to the "war of angels and demons" christian mythology that I was not really expecting, and it spiced things up a little bit more! Way to go Stephanie Foxe!!

My Thoughts:
Another short and sweet installment in the Witch's Bite series with 269 pages long. This one I read the ebook instead of listening to it, even though I already own the audiobook version. Teaches me not to buy books ahead of time instead of buying them only when I need to. Really not a fan of the narrator's singsong way of reading!

I've said most of what I have to say about this book in my review of the previous books in this series. Wonderful story telling quality. Beautiful world building. Characters to love, etc. etc. This one is more of the same. Like I said, short and sweet!

I listened to these as audiobooks and enjoyed the storyline and the characters but there was something I found detracted from getting fully immersed in this world. Repetitive phrases. Each character drags their hand down their face, or glares or grinds their teeth, all the time.

My Thoughts:
This time around, the author has added the "war of angels and demons" of the Christian faith angle to the story, which is interesting! It spiced things up! And Woggy is kinda growing on me... While still aligning the story with the series' main story arch, this book actually has a plot of it's own. Something I trully appreciated after having read a few urban fantasy books that did not. It's not thick and it's not twisty, but it is there! Kudos to this urban fantasy author!! This series is starting to really get its hooks in me! And I am happy to recommend it to all urban fantasy readers!!

If you haven't started these books, you should. I'm not one for written reviews as a rule because of many reasons which I won't get into, but if you like:
Paranormal Fantasy,
Urban Fantasy,
Werewolves, witches, vampires, angels, demons, trolls or incubus
Butt kicking female lead characters,

Start this series. You'll be looking for Misfit Pack by Stephanie Foxe. If you've already read the first three I don't have to convince you to pick this up.

A few worldbuilding issues, but solid writing

I enjoyed the characters and the interplay as they became a pack. My issue is with policing, as in their was almost none. The ‘bad guys’ did things with almost no repercussions and that bothered me. The world was too normal for witches and weres to be so out of control. There were some hints about power structures, but the witch interactions especially left me questioning the stability of the world, which is a flaw in he narrative.

I was, however, able to look past the worldbuilding issue and enjoy the growth and development of the pack. There is a lot of potential in this group.

I will purchase book 2. Best recommendation I can give, it is worthy of my money.

Better than the first

More of the structures I was missing in the first novel made appearances. Some questions about order were answered by a bit character. This really filled out the world.

The characters are far more than tropes or cardboard cutouts. The plot is very complex. Some ‘birds’ from the first novel came home to roost.

Vampires appear briefly, with a little snark at ‘Twilight’.

I am going to buy the next book. Best recommendation I can give.

New twist

On an old idea. The pack is finally realizing their potential. Trouble is growing.

I continue to enjoy this series. There were a few moments where the pace left me out of sorts, but overall the story is amazing.

Very nice

A bit light on the world-building, but nothing that got in the way of enjoying the book. The pace is quite brisk and the end comes quicker than I expected. The final scene ends with a cliff-hanger, but to be fair, it simply sets up the plot of the next book, it doesn’t leave unresolved issues.

I guess the only issue is that the MC is the only *real* character. The others are little more than a name, description, and a mannerism or two. Stock characters that haven’t moved their identity beyond the surface. Like a movie with NAME actor, and everyone else is central casting. Still good, but not *amazing*.

I will buy the next book. Best recommendation I can give.

Good series

The pace is brisk, the writing is clean, and the plot doesn’t get cluttered by side plots. The MC is mostly comprehensible, though she doesn’t truly change over the course of the 4 novels.

The end is almost too quick, as the ‘big bad’ is barely there for a chapter or two before he is defeated.

I enjoyed the whole series and would recommend it as a light read to people who like witches and vampires and werewolves but prefer to avoid the broody, angst ridden vampires in other novels.
