A superb look from a different perspective

I have read all of Hugh Howey's series and all of the add on books written by different authors and I must say, this book is one of the best! As a Silo series fans I think about the different perspectives and I loved this one. What a great author.

Ever since reading the first book, Voyage of the Dead, I have anxiously been awaiting this second book in the series. It did NOT disappoint. Check that -- I WAS disappointed when I ran out of book to read. I was engrossed from start to finish. Once again, I was up into the wee hours of the morning to finish the book.

As with the first book, I was fascinated with the two main characters. Both Scott can Carl are the type of men I would hope I would be if such a situation as a Zombie Apocalypse were to arise. Not only are they ethical men, but they put a lot of thought behind their plans and actions.

I think David weaves an excellent balance between dialog, description, and action. And I enjoy the bantering that frequently occurs between the main characters.

Loved the book. I almost read it in one sitting, except that it was 4am and I had to go to bed. Now I've got to wait for the second book...

I'm generally not a fan of books where stories go back and forth between different characters and story lines, but I thought it worked very well in this book. Maybe because there were only two main characters, instead of the 6 or 7 some writers try to juggle in a book.

It was refreshing to have a zombie story about survivors in a position to have a rational and thought-out response to the zombie uprising, rather than one that has mostly irrational panic reactions and petty squabbling among the survivors.

I also enjoyed the humorous dialog injected here and there. Just the right mix.

Once again, I was up into the wee hours of the morning to finish the book, because I couldn't put it down.

Although I enjoyed it thoroughly, this book was much darker than the previous two and lacked a lot of the humor they had, which I missed. And the big baddie we want to hate here is a human being, although there is enough zombie action for all.

And a few more questions to keep the story going. So now I go back into wait mode for the next book. AGAIN! :)
